The Haunted Bishop’s Table Hotel
27 West Street, Farnham GU9 7DR
The stunning Georgian hotel was built in the middle of the 18th century.
In 1898 the Church of England bought the building to be used a training college for the clergy.
As well as a guesthouse which was known as the Bishop’s Hostel!
In the 1960s the building was converted into a guest house called Newnhams Guest House.
And then it was converted into the Bishop’s Table Hotel that you can stay the night in today.
In the 1940s the building was known as Newnhams House.
And it was during this time that a teenager who lived in the house reported paranormal activity taking place.
One night she felt the temperature drop in her bedroom.
And then witnessed a ghostly shawl clad figure appear in her bedroom doorway.
Thinking it was her old nanny from the room next door she called out to the ghostly figure but it suddenly disappeared into thin air!
Spooked, she ran next door to check whether the figure was her nanny by found the old lady fast asleep in her bed.
Terrified the young teenager decided to spend the rest of the night sleeping in the nanny’s room.
The next day the teenager told her mother about the spooky events which took place the night before.
The mother decided to stay that night in the bedroom to put her daughters mind to rest but halfway through the night she had to leave the room as she felt the atmosphere too repressive!
Many other residents of the building have also reported seeing mysterious ghostly figures within the building.
A local policeman who patrolled outside the building nightly reported seeing a ghostly figure of a priest leaving the building on many occasions.
One night he followed the ghostly figure to St Andrews Church where he then heard the sound of singing coming from within the church.
The policeman then investigated the church but found it to be empty!
In the 1990s a member of staff at the hotel witnessed a ghostly figure in one of the attic rooms located on the top floor of the building.
It’s said that she was so affected by the encounter that she seriously considered leaving her job!
In the 1960s a couple of guests staying in one of the hotel’s bedroom woke up in the early hours of the morning to find a young woman sitting at their dressing table brushing her hair.
They asked the young woman what she was doing in their bedroom.
And she turned around, looked directly at them and then disappeared into thin air!Click Here to Stay in the Bishop’s Table Hotel
