The Haunted Castle Venlaw Hotel
Edinburgh Road, Peebles EH45 8QG
You’ll find Castle Venlaw situated along the Edinburgh Road just to the north of the Scottish Borders town of Peebles.
The Category B listed building dates back to 1782 when it was first built for the Sheriff of Peebles, Alexander Stevenson.
Castle Venlaw was originally called Venlaw House and was built on the site of the former Smithfield Castle.
It was transformed into a hotel in 1949 and changed its name to Castle Venlaw Hotel in 1997.
Over the years the hotel has gained a reputation for being haunted…
Spooked guests staying in a certain bedroom at the hotel have reported hearing ghostly sighs.
The eerie sighing is believed to be caused by the ghost of a former suicidal guest who jumped out of the bedroom window!
