The Haunting of Chesil Beach

You’ll find Chesil Beach situated on the Dorset coast in southern England.

The eighteen mile long shingle barrier beach is part of the Jurassic Coast which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Parts of the beach are reputed to be haunted.

Local sea anglers who fish on the beach through the night have reported hearing phantom footsteps walking along it and the sound of very young children laughing.

On one occasion a night fisherman had a chat with an elderly angler who walked up to him carry some old fashioned fishing gear.

The old man told him that he would fish the beach once a week to catch something for his dinner.

With that he carried on down the beach where he suddenly vanished into thin air!

There’s been a few ships wrecked on Chisel Beach and during the Second World War a German Luftwaffe plane crashed into it killing its occupants instantly.

Some say that the ghost of a Luftwaffe airman walks the beach on moonlit nights at the spot where the German plane crashed.

And they think that it’s his ghost which is responsible for the phantom footsteps that the sea anglers hear walking along the beach at night!
