The Haunting of Colliton Walk

You’ll find Colliton Walk by the roundabout at the end of the Grove in Dorchester.

The walk is the location of Eric Kennington’s 1931 sculpture of Thomas Hardy.

The area is also said to be haunted by Thomas Hardy’s ghost.

Witnesses have reported seeing the ghostly apparition of a smartly dressed man with dark hair and a greying twisted moustache pacing back and forth in front of the statue before disappearing into the night’s air.

They describe him as being sad and lost looking but looking remarkably like his statue.

For some reason, his ghostly apparition is only seen on cold wintery nights in January.
