The Haunted Dobbin’s Inn Hotel

6-8 High Street, Carrickfergus BT38 7AF

A stone’s throw away from Carrickfergus Castle is a hotel called Dobbin’s Inn.

Back in the 1200s, Reginald D’Aubin was given land close to the castle on which he built a tower house.

The house remained in the family for hundreds of years.

By the 15th century, their family name had morphed into Dobyn.

At this time, Elizabeth the wife of the owner of the house was having a secret affair with a young soldier from the castle.

Under the cover of night, she would creep through a secret tunnel which led to the castle to meet with her soldier lover.

Now, you can probably guess what happened next…

Yep, they were both discovered by her husband who in a jealous rage killed both of them with his sword!

In 1946, the house was converted into a hotel which seemed to awake the spirit of Elizabeth.

She now said to haunt the hotel.

Spooked guests have reported being woken by her in the middle of the night…

Apparently, she wakes them by touching their faces!

Other witnesses at the hotel have sworn to have seen her run from the reception to the stone fireplace were the old tunnel entrance is hidden.
