The Haunting of East Lodge
Next door to Holytrees Museum in Colchester is a splendid old 17th century building called East Lodge.
It’s said to be haunted by the Grey Lady…
One of the Lodge’s cleaners had a terrifying ghostly encounter with her.
You see, one day she was cleaning near the blue room when she heard some strange noises coming from it.
At the time she also felt like she was being watched by an unknown entity.
All of a sudden she could smell a very strong old fashioned floral perfume.
Suddenly she turned around and came face to face with a strange woman.
The woman wore a crinoline dress and grey bonnet.
The cleaner got the fright of her life when the lady suddenly disappeared into thin air right in front of her!
This was the beginning of the Grey Lady of East Lodge myth.
Since that day her ghostly apparition has been witnessed on the staircase by terrified witnesses.
She’s also constantly blamed for flickering lights, doors opening and shutting on their own accord and other paranormal activity which takes place within the haunted lodge.
