The Haunted Flitwick Manor Hotel

Church Road, Flitwick MK45 1AE

In the south of Flitwick just off Church Road you’ll find a Grade II* listed Georgian country house called Flitwick Manor.

The manor dates back to 1816 when it was first built for John Thomas Brooks shortly after his marriage to his wife Mary.

Flitwick Manor remained as the family home to the Brooks and their descendants the Lyalls right up until the 1930s.

In the 1980s it was converted into a restaurant and then in the 1990s it was transformed into the hotel you can stay at today.

The manor has a reputation for being haunted by a female apparition.

Many spooked guests and members of staff alike have reported hearing phantom footsteps walking up and down the hotel’s corridors late at night.

The hotel has also suffered from numerous unexplained electrical problems.

One poor guest was scared witless after waking up to see a ghostly apparition of a woman at the foot of his bed staring out of the window!

On one occasion, the duty manager came across the phantom lady walking along the upstairs corridor…

Apparently she just faded away into thin air!

The paranormal activity increased after a builder who was renovating the building came across a hidden room in the hotel.

Some say the hidden room was the servant quarters belonging to Mrs Banks.

Mrs Banks was an old white haired housekeeper who was sacked after being blamed for poisoning one of the Lyall’s children!

Some say that it’s Mrs Banks’ ghost which haunts Flitwick Manor whilst others believe it’s the ghost of Mr Brooks’ wife.
