The Haunting of the Fox and Fiddler
The Fox and Fiddler Pub in Colchester is said to be haunted by a young chambermaid called Sarah.
It’s said that Sarah is a fun loving ghost who is known to play pranks on the pub’s members of staff and guests.
Legend says that the notorious Matthew Hopkins, aka the Witchfinder General, was responsible for the death of Sarah in the 1600s.
It’s said that he dragged Sarah kicking and screaming down to the pub’s cellar where he bricked her up in a disused tunnel under the inn!
A couple of members of staff have seen the ghostly apparition of Sarah.
They describe her as being blonde and wearing a white lacy hat and a white pinafore over a black dress!
