The Haunting of the Borough Arms

You’ll find Goldies pub situated along High East Street in the Dorset town of Dorchester.

The Grade II listed building was formerly known as the Borough Arms and dates back to the early 17th century.

In the days when it was the Borough Arms it gained a reputation for being haunted by the ghosts of a group of local traders who would meet in the pub to discuss the town’s businesses.

This group of local traders were led by a butcher called James Briggs and they became known as the Borough Boys.

The group would first form on the pavement outside the Borough Arms and then when everybody was present they would enter the pub.

Witnesses have described seeing the apparitions of seven men waiting on the pavement outside the pub and when an eighth man arrives they disappear into thin air.

Inside the pub, objects have been known to move on their own accord and phantom laughter has been heard coming from empty tables!
