You’ll find the Ilchester Arms Hotel along Market Street in the historic village of Abbotsbury.
The Grade II listed building dates back to the late 18th century when it started life out as a coaching inn named after the Earl of Ilchester.
The Ilchester Arms has some ghostly tales to tell…
Witnesses have reported seeing the ghostly apparition of a soldier from the English Civil War period roaming around the premises.
They describe him as wearing a Royalist uniform complete with a wide brimmed hat!
Local legend says that he’s the ghost of a Royalist soldier who was once caught by Parliamentarian troops who then proceeded to hang him.
The building is also said to be haunted by the ghost of coin collector called Charles.
On one occasion a witness heard the phantom sound of coins jangling!
The ghost of a phantom woman is said to haunt the toilets.
And a ghostly apparition of a large dog has been seen walking up to the hotel’s windows and peering through them.
Two women staying at the Ilchester Arms were scared witless after one of then was awoken by the sensation of cold hands around her neck.

Lots of paranormal groups have investigated Jamaica Inn coming to the conclusion that the most active parts of the inn are the Smugglers Bar, the Restaurant, the Stable Bar and Bedroom 4.
Witnesses have also reported hearing the sound of a phantom coach and horses drawing up outside the inn in the middle of the night.
Visitors to Jamaica Inn have reported seeing the ghostly apparition of a man dressed in a cloak and a hat.
Apparently, he suddenly appears and then disappears through solid closed doors.
