The Haunting of the Keep Military Museum

You’ll find the Keep Military Museum situated along Bridport Road in the Dorset town of Dorchester.

The Grade II listed building dates back to 1879 when it was originally the gatehouse for the Dorchester Depot Barracks.

The white Portland stone building was built to resemble a Norman castle.

Today, the Keep is as a military museum.

During the Second World War the barracks were used by 701st Ordnance Light Maintenance Company and the US Army’s 1st Quartermaster Company.

And it’s from this time period that the ghost of the Keep is said to hail.

Members of staff have reported sudden temperature drops, eerie sighs and the sound of phantom footsteps walking around the upper floors of the building.

Some believe that the paranormal activity is caused by the ghost of a former American serviceman who was stationed at the Keep during the Second World War.
