The Haunted Kings Head Hotel
58 High Street, Rochester ME1 1LD
You’ll find the Kings Head Hotel along Rochester’s High Street just opposite Chertsey’s Gate and a couple of minute walk from Rochester Castle.
The current building dates from the 18th century but there’s actually been an inn on the site since 1575.
There’s a rather scary ghost story associated with the Kings Head…
One day a female member of staff walked through the fire door on the hotel’s landing and then proceeded to walk through the next one but found that it was tightly shut.
The door wouldn’t open so she turned back to exit via the fire door she had just come through.
To her surprise she found that this door was firmly shut too.
Starting to panic she looked through the fire door window to see what or who was stopping the door from opening.
To her horror she saw a ghostly apparition of an old lady in period dress with an evil look on her face holding the door shut!
FEATURED HAUNTED HOTEL: The Black Boy Inn, Caernarfon
To the rear of the Black Boy there was once a convent which probably accounts for the many sightings of a ghostly nun seen walking through the building.
Many guests have heard the sound of a phantom child crying in one of the inn’s bedrooms.
Apparently, if you ask whether the child is OK it stops crying!
Members of staff and punters alike have reported seeing a ghostly figure of a man sitting in the bar area of the pub just watching people.
And a senior member of staff was certain they saw a ghostly apparition of a woman in the bar area when they were working late one night.
