The Haunted Lion and Swan Hotel
1 Swan Bank, Congleton CW12 1AH
At the junction of Swan Bank, West Street and Wagg Street in Congleton you’ll find the black and white Lion and Swan Hotel.
The traditional inn dates back to the 16th century and has the reputation for being haunted…
Terrified witnesses have seen a ghostly brown mist manifest in many areas of the hotel.
It’s believed that the mist is connected to the ghostly apparition of a woman who is often seen tending the hotel’s fire in the middle of the night.
Shocked witnesses describe her as having long brown hair and wearing nothing except a pair of wooden clogs!
Because of her association with the brown mist she has been nicknamed the Brown Lady.
Room 20 has a reputation for being haunted and many guests report the unpleasant sudden temperature drops which take place in the room.
It’s said that when Room 20 is empty, phantom scratching and banging noises can be heard coming from the neighbouring rooms…
Could these eerie noises be caused by the ghostly black dog often witnessed around the hotel?
Members of staff are often spooked in the hotel’s cellar after hearing the eerie sound of a young child or woman softly talking and crying!Click Here to Stay at the Lion and Swan
