The Haunted Mytton and Mermaid Hotel
Atcham, Shrewsbury SY5 6QG
On the banks of the River Severn in the centre of the village of Atcham you’ll find the magnificent Mytton and Mermaid Hotel.
The grade II listed hotel is a former coaching inn which dates back to the 18th century.
The hotel is partly named after a local eccentric called John ‘Mad Jack’ Mytton…
Mad Jack had a reputation for drinking up to six bottles of port a day and living with over two thousand dogs and sixty cats!
Well, with an alcohol problem and the love of caring for animals his money eventually ran out resulting in him ending up in debtor’s prison where he sadly died.
It’s said that his funeral procession stopped at the coaching inn as a mark of respect.
And now every year on his birthday his ghost shows an appearance at the Mytton and Mermaid Hotel!Click Here to Stay in the Mytton and Mermaid Hotel
