In 1744, Robert Surtees acquired the hall and it remained a family home until 1955.
Redworth Hall is reputed to be haunted by a couple of ghosts…
Apparently, Lord Robert Surtees was said to have had a mentally ill child and had the poor boy chained to the fireplace.
And now the ghost of the young boy is said to haunt the corridors of the hall.

Another ghost story associated with Lord Surtees is that of a young scullery maid he got pregnant.
Distraught, the young girl threw herself down the hall’s staircase and killed herself.
Her ghost is now said to wander the halls corridors late at night!
