The Haunted Sign of the Angel
6 Church Street, Lacock SN15 2LB
You’ll find the Sign of the Angel inn situated along Church Street in the village of Lacock.
The Grade II* listed building dates back to the late 15th century when it started life off as a private house for a wealthy wool merchant.
The inn gets its unusual name from the gold ‘Angel’ coin which was in circulation when the building first became a pub.
Over the years a ghostly apparition of an elderly woman has been seen frequently at the inn.
It’s believed that she’s the ghost of a former owner of the pub.
Her ghostly apparition is often seen sitting patiently at one of the tables in the lounge bar by spooked members of staff and diners alike.
It’s said that when she’s spoken too, she smiles and then disappears into thin air.
She’s also been seen in a couple of the inn’s bedrooms.
On one occasion in the late 1960s a carpet fitter got the shock of his life when he saw her ghostly apparition suddenly appear from the entrance of the pub and wander about the premises!Click Here to Stay in the Sign of the Angel
