The Haunted Swan Hotel
106 Watling Street, Wellington, Telford TF1 2NH
You’ll find the Swan Hotel along the old Roman road of Watling Street in the market town of Wellington.
The present day hotel actually stands on the spot of a former much older coaching inn which once served the stage coaches going to London.
Spooked members of staff have reported hearing slow phantom footsteps walking toward a particular bedroom.
The footsteps fade away as they reach the bedroom door!
A former cook at the hotel once reported seeing the ghostly gentlemen responsible for the phantom footsteps walking along the landing.
She described him as being friendly looking and dressed in a long dark coat and untanned leather trousers.
A former landlord of the Swan gave him the name Humphrey.
Humphrey is believed to be the ghost of an unfortunate traveller who was robbed and murdered in one of the Swan’s bedrooms over one hundred and fifty years ago!Click Here to Stay in the Swan Hotel
FEATURED HAUNTED HOTEL: The Black Boy Inn, Caernarfon
To the rear of the Black Boy there was once a convent which probably accounts for the many sightings of a ghostly nun seen walking through the building.
Many guests have heard the sound of a phantom child crying in one of the inn’s bedrooms.
Apparently, if you ask whether the child is OK it stops crying!
Members of staff and punters alike have reported seeing a ghostly figure of a man sitting in the bar area of the pub just watching people.
And a senior member of staff was certain they saw a ghostly apparition of a woman in the bar area when they were working late one night.
