The hotel dates back to the 17th century and has a reputation for being haunted…
Warren Cottage Hotel is said to be haunted by the ghosts of a mother and child who tragically died of influenza in 1915!
A guest staying at the hotel got the shock of his life when he was woken up in the middle of the night by the feeling of a small child holding his hand.
He looked around him and saw an apparition of a young child in his bed with him!
Another couple staying in the same room reported seeing an apparition of a woman standing at the foot of their bed in the middle of the night.
They described her as being about thirty years old.
In the early hours of one morning the hotel’s owner had a fluffy toy clown which was on the mantelpiece thrown at his feet by an unseen presence.
And his young daughter witnessed an apparition of a woman in a long gown walk straight through some trees whilst she was in the hotel’s garden area!

To the rear of the Black Boy there was once a convent which probably accounts for the many sightings of a ghostly nun seen walking through the building.
Many guests have heard the sound of a phantom child crying in one of the inn’s bedrooms.
Apparently, if you ask whether the child is OK it stops crying!
Members of staff and punters alike have reported seeing a ghostly figure of a man sitting in the bar area of the pub just watching people.
And a senior member of staff was certain they saw a ghostly apparition of a woman in the bar area when they were working late one night.
