The Craig-y-Nos Castle Hotel, Pen-y-cae
Craig-y-Nos is a Victorian-Gothic country house situated in the upper Swansea Valley next to the River Tawe.
It dates back to 1841 when it was built by the county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock, Captain Rice Davies Powell.
The Powell family was said to be cursed!
Captain Rice Davies Powell younger son died of cholera in 1851. Then his wife and youngest daughter died shortly followed by himself in 1862.
And then a couple of years later in 1864, his oldest son died in a hunting accident.
The famous opera singer Adelina Patti bought the castle in 1878.
She absolutely loved the house!
She added the North and South wings, the clock tower, the conservatory, the winter garden and her beloved theatre.
Today, the Adelina Patti Theatre is a Grade I listed building in its own right!
After Adelina Patti’s death in 1919, the castle was turned into a TB hospital and named the Adelina Patti Hospital after the great singer.
The hospital treated TB sufferers and the elderly until 1989.
Today, Craig-y-Nos Castle is run as a B&B and a wedding venue.
Craig-y-Nos is said to be the most haunted castle in Wales…
Adelina Patti ghostly apparition has been witnessed throughout the castle but especially in her beloved theatre.
In the Boudoir, the eerie sound of phantom singing and the ghostly apparition of a Victorian gentleman have been witnessed.
Ghosts of former TB patients have been seen roaming along the castle’s first floor corridor and on the back staircase!
The Ruthin Castle Hotel, Ruthin
The medieval Ruthin Castle is located in the picturesque Denbighshire’s county town of Ruthin.
The first castle was built by Edward I in 1217.
The Cornwallis-West family built the modern castle within the ruins of the old castle in 1826.

The Grey Lady is the most infamous of the ghost which are said to haunt the castle.
She’s said to be the spirit of a woman who was married to a steward at the castle in the 15th century.
She discovered that her husband was having an affair with a young peasant girl.
It’s said that she murdered the young girl in revenge but was tried and sentenced to death at the castle for the crime.
Today, terrified witnesses have reported seeing her ghostly apparition on the castle battlements and in the banqueting hall.
The apparition of soldier wearing just one glove has also been spotted wandering around the castle grounds.
