The Haunting of Weymouth Bay

Locals have reported seeing a ghost ship entering Weymouth Bay on the Dorset coast.

They describe the phantom vessel as having a tall mast in full sail and vanishing into thin air when it enters Weymouth Bay.

It’s believed the ghost ship is the apparition of the Earl of Abergavenny which was captained by the brother of the poet William Wordsworth, John Wordsworth.

The ship tragically sunk on the night of 5th February 1805 after it hit the Shambles bank in bad weather.

After hitting the bank it took on water fast and the captain tried to get it to the safety of Weymouth Bay but it sank with the loss of two hundred and fifty crew and passengers including John Wordsworth.
